  1. 01

    Flip

    959 B

You can't jump. You can only change which way is down. Slip between the walls as the corridor speeds up.

  2. 02

    Lanes

    999 B

Five lanes, nonstop traffic, ever faster. Grab the cyan charge to phase through one obstacle.

  3. 03

    Coil

    979 B

Grow a glowing tail while the arena closes in with every bite. Golden keys push the walls back out.

  4. 04

    Sixty

    988 B

Survive sixty seconds of bullet patterns: spirals, rings with gaps, aimed bursts. Clear it and the next run is harder.

  5. 05

    Ledge

    992 B

Climb an endless tower of ledges while the screen drifts upward. Hold jump longer to leap higher, and don't trust the orange ones.

  6. 06

    Drift

    1000 B

No gun, just momentum. Coast around a wraparound screen collecting sparks, but every spark you grab births another rock.

  7. 07

    Pulse

    985 B

The music is generated live and every note you hear scrolls down a lane toward the hit line. Press on the beat as the tempo creeps up; three misses end the run.

  8. 08

    Lumen

    980 B

A daily logic puzzle: everyone gets the same board. Each tap flips a tile and a secret pattern around it that changes every day. Darken the grid within par.

What is this?

8x1k is a shelf of eight original browser games, each squeezed into one kilobyte. Every game is a single hand-written script that draws on a 320×180 canvas. Graphics are rectangles, sound is generated live with WebAudio, and levels come from code. Nothing is downloaded.

The rules are the old demoscene and js1k ones. The page gives each game a canvas and nothing else, and what ships has to fit in 1024 bytes after minifying with Terser and packing with RegPack. Each game page shows the exact bytes it ships, next to the readable source.

They all work with a keyboard or a touchscreen, keep your best score on your device, and need no account.
